Microchipping

At Central Vets & Pets micro-chipping your pet will cost just $45.

This also gets you a free Pet health check valued at $45 so again trying to keep costs down and provide that affordable veterinary care which all pet owners should have access to.

A microchip is about the size of a grain of rice and is injected under your pet’s skin. It can be done during a normal consultation. The microchip is embedded with a code unique to your pet and is the most effective form of permanent identification.

In New Zealand the owner has a choice to either register the micro-chip number with a local data base or the national data base.  The price increases depending on which one you choose.

At Central Vets & Pets we always register your pet with the National Data Base so no matter where you are, your animal will be recognised and able to be returned back to your family.

For dogs, registering their micro-chip number is a legal requirement in New Zealand and has the added benefit if your pet ever decides to leave home when they are not supposed to.

Pets that are micro-chipped are more easily returned to their owners as all veterinary surgeries and the SPCA and animal control officers have micro-chip scanners enabling rapid identification of your pet. They can also assist where the ownership of an animal is in dispute.

If a pet is ever lost and is handed in at a veterinary clinic or animal shelter a microchip scanner is passed over the animal to reveal the unique code. The vet or animal shelter can then refer to the database to identify the name, address and phone number of the owner, so they can be reunited.

If your pet is not micro-chipped please give us a call to make an appointment to have one inserted.  If you find a lost pet please call us to arrange a scan, we can reunite micro-chipped pets with their worried owners.
